Huawei is a leading global information and communication technology (ICT) solutions provider. Huawei started its business in Europe in 2000, and has continuously invested in local markets. Huawei has been growing progressively and quickly in Europe in the last years, and currently has over 7 700 staff based in Europe, of whom 850 are working in R&D. Huawei runs 14 R&D sites located in 8 European countries and operates numerous joint innovation centres in partnership with the ICT companies.

Huawei’s European Research Center (ERC) in Munich belongs to Huawei Technologies Duesseldorf GmbH (HWDU), focusing on broadband access, optical network, IP, multimedia, and fixed mobile convergence. ERC is in charge of research, development and standardisation. ERC is one of the principal contributors in the Horizon 2020 and the advanced 5G infrastructure public-private partnership programme (5G-PPP) funded by the European Commission.
